India pays tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on 70th anniversary of his death

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the nation in paying tributes to leader of the Indian independence movement against British rule, Mahatma Gandhi, on the 70th anniversary of his death, on Tuesday

Former Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh also paid floral tributes to the man fondly known across India as the ‘Father of the Nation’ at the ‘Raj ghat’ memorial in New Delhi .

Situated on the banks of river Yamuna, the memorial stands at the spot where Gandhi was cremated after he was assassinated on 30th January, 1948.

An advocate of non-violent resistance, Gandhi has inspired freedom and civil rights movements across the world.
