German President visits northern India, witnesses famous Hindu ritual at Ganga river bank

German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier took a boat ride and witnessed the famous 'Ganga Aarti', a Hindu ritual worshipping holy river Ganges with fire in North Indian spiritual town, Varanasi

The German president, who is on his maiden visit to the country, is on a four-day visit to India and was accompanied by Indian officials and media delegation. The leader and his delegation took a boat ride from the famous ‘Assi Ghat’ (80 river bank), and later witnessed the spectacle of the of evening prayer ceremony of the river from his boat on Dashashwamedh Ghat (river bank).

‘Ganga Aarti’ (traditional Hindu ritual of praying with lit lamps) is one of the main attractions at the banks in the evening.
