German students walk out of school in climate change protest

By: Paige Hubbard

Students in the German port of Hamburg are taking action against climate control. On Friday the students marched out of school and headed to the Swedish parliament to do something about the global issue.

The march was led by political activist Greta Thunberg. Thunberg is only 16 years old but she has made a name for herself by lobbying for global warming and climate change.

Thunberg said the protest will not end until politicians take affirmative action to combat climate change.

“For way too long, the politicians and the people in power have gotten away with not doing anything to fight the climate crisis. But we will make sure that they will not get away with it any longer,” said Thunberg.

It is estimated that 3,000 students gathered and walked through the streets chanting “We are here; we are loud because you are stealing our future.”

German Environment Minister Svenja Schulze said on Twitter the protests were impressive.
