Two climbers dead after falling off cliff in New Zealand

New Zealand police said on Thursday (November 7) that two men had died following a climbing accident in The Remarkables mountain range near the popular tourist city of Queenstown.

Police said in a statement that 62-year-old Brett Alexander Lentfer who resided in Australia, and 44-year-old James Harry Spaile of Australia died after they fell off a cliff about midday on Wednesday (November 7).

The pair were climbing an area known as the Grand Traverse when they fell. 

The pair were roped together, according to local media reports, and were climbing with a guide from Aspiring Guides at the time. 

The body of one climber was found on Wednesday while the other man was recovered on Thursday.
